New floor Q&A

When we renovated the living room floor, I received a lot of questions and although I tried to reply to every single one, I thought to answer here to make things clear:

1. Have you done the job by yourself?
No, we hired a qualified company to do it. I admit we couldn't have managed to do it: first we don't have time and most important we wanted to have a perfect work.
{For whom is interested, the company is called Walravens Parket}.
2. Is this a new floor?
No, this is the old oak floor. For what I know the floor has been placed in the '70s, when the house has been renovated. This kind of floor is the most expensive option you could have: it has a "hinged opening" and it's nailed on the base.
3. Which procedure have you followed?
As I said we didn't do the works by ourself, but the procedure has been the following: sanding twice, paint with a specific oil to give the white washed look, paint again and a couple of days to dry out.
4. How have you managed your life in these days?
It wasn't easy, let me tell you. I moved the fridge and all the supplies to the laundry, where I organized a temporary kitchen. We bought a party tent that we placed in the patio, underneath we moved the table and the sofa. The garden table has been our dining table for the week. For three days we didn't walked on the floor, so we had to exit from the main door and go to the garden from the street.
And luckily my grandma came here and she helped a lot with Enea.

A tough week, but totally worth it!


Quando abbiamo rinnovato il pavimento del living, ho ricevuto un sacco di domande e anche se ho cercato di rispondere ad ognuna, ho pensato di rispondere qui per fare chiarezza:

1. Avete fatto il lavoro da soli?
No, abbiamo ingaggiato una società qualificata per farlo. Ammetto che non saremmo riusciti a farlo da noi: in primo luogo non abbiamo tempo e cosa ancora più importante volevamo avere un lavoro fatto a regola d'arte.
{Per chi abita in Olanda e fosse interessato, la compagnia si chiama Walravens Parket}.
2. È un nuovo pavimento?
No, questo è il vecchio pavimento in quercia. Per quello che so, è stato posato negli anni '70, quando la casa è stata ristrutturata. Questo tipo di pavimento è l'opzione più costosa che si potrebbe avere: ha una "apertura a cerniera" ed è inchiodato sulla base.
3. Quale procedura hai seguito?
Come ho già detto non abbiamo fatto noi i lavori, ma la procedura è stata più o meno la seguente: levigatura per due volte, una prima mano di pittura con un olio specifico per dare l'effetto sbiancato, una seconda mano e un paio di giorni per lasciare asciugare.
4. Come hai gestito la tua vita in questi giorni?
Non è stato facile, lasciate che vi dica. Ho spostato il frigo e tutte le cose necessarie nella lavanderia, dove ho organizzato una cucina temporanea. Abbiamo comprato un tendone che abbiamo messo nel patio, sotto cui abbiamo spostato il tavolo e il divano. Il tavolo da giardino è stato il nostro tavolo da pranzo per la settimana. Per tre giorni non abbiamo camminato sul pavimento, quindi siamo dovuti uscire dalla porta principale e andare in giardino passando dalla strada.
E per fortuna mia nonna è venuta qui e ha aiutato molto con Enea.

Una settimana difficile, ma ne è davvero valsa la pena!
